South West Chiefs and some Political Parties boycott National Day Celebration

Despite the injunction by South West governor, Bernard Okalia Bilai urging traditional rulers to take part in the National day celebrations, chiefs were still absent as reports indicated that just six were seen present in the ceremonial ground at Bongo Square Buea.
Equally, it was observed that some main opposition political parties like the Social Democratic Front of Ni John Fru Ndi, the Cameroon Renaissance Movement of Maurice Kamto, and the Cameroon's People Party of Kah Walla stayed back from the National day commeration as they had declared their intension for a boycott. It was however noted that the lone political party represented was the ruling party, CPDM of presential Paul Biya.
Moreover, the 47th edition was marked by the Anglophone crisis hitting the South West and North West regions of Cameroon. The turnout for civilians participation was timid as it was noted that no Primary and Secondary school  took part in Kumba for the National day celebration.
Nevertheless, the theme for this year's celebration;"Unity in diversity, a major asset to the Cameroonian people in their determined move towards emergence" comes at a time when there are threats to the Country's unity with socio- political and security challenges across the territory.
