Muhammadu Buhari has been sworn in for second term as Nigeria's president Wednesday May 29, 2019, pledging to tackle security threats and to root out corruption in the country's economy.
The 76-year old army general will spend another four years in office who has being in power since 2015 and re-elected in February this year.
"I do solemnly swear that I will be faithful and bear true allegiance to the Federal Republic of Nigeria. I will preserve, protect and defend the Constitution", Buhari said.
According to reports on Focus on Africa by BBC news, Buhari takes the oath at the country's head quarter, without delivering a speech and will do so on June 12, 2019. Equally, his vice president Yemi Osinbajo was also sworn into office.
The February election gave him 56 per cent of the votes as compared to his rival, Atiku Abubakar of the People's Democratic party ( PDP) who came second with 41 per cent of the votes.
However, critics have condemned his fight against corruption during his first term of office, which according to them is one- sided against perceived political opponents.
Nevertheless, Buhari has acknowldged that his efforts were not enough to combat corruption, so he has vowed this term of office to root out corruption.
