Ace Dramatist, Literary legend Professor Anne Tanyi- Tang is No More

Prolific writer, Associate Professor Anne Tanyi-Tang is no more. The author of Ewa and other Plays died Sunday, June 2, 2019 at the University Teaching Hospital, Yaoundé.
Until  her death, she was serving at the Department of Arts and Archeology at the University of Yaoundé 1. The former Vice Dean in charge Programmes and Academic Affairs at the Faculty of Arts, University of Buea is known for her depths in drama and theatre arts. Her undying passion for drama and theatre arts could be read in some of her towering works including Ewa and other Plays. As a dramatist, her plays were gendered in nature and represented women in different socio-cultural and economic domains in contemporary Cameroonian society.
Anne Tanyi-Tang was a literary giant whose works have contributed immensely to the development of Anglophone Cameroonian drama. From a feminist perspective, Tanyi-Tang’s plays offer a more nuanced vision of women as assertive, rebellious and intelligent human beings who stage a successful resistance to patriarchy.
Aside “Ewa and other Plays” and “Chief Ayito & Other Plays”, her other works include: Three Plays: The Heiress; The Song of Ayanta ; &, Obsessio. Theatre Production and Artistic Directing: Lessons from Bubbles Theatre Troupe is another epic piece for scholars.
This daughter of Akiriba Village in Manyu Division will also be remembered for “Down the Hill”, "Visiting America," "Marienuelle" and “Eneta vs Elimo”.
The literary world has since been drowned in tears given that the passing unto glory of Anne Tanyi-Tang follows the painful exits of Bate Besong and Bole Butake.
However, this Dramatist icon remains a memory in Arts students' minds as they will forever remember her through her works. Professor Anne Tanyi is no more but her legacy lives on.
