Robert Mugabe, Strongman who cried Zimbabwe Is Mine" Does at 95.

Robert Mugabe, the first prime minister and later president of independent Zimbabwe, who traded the mantle of liberator for the armor of a tyrant and presided over the decline of one of Africa's most prosperous lands died today Friday, September 6, 2019 at aged 95.

According to BBC reports, Mr Mugabe's death was confirmed by his family where he had been receiving treatment in a hospital in Singapore since April.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed their condelences and said it was working with the Embassy of Zimbabwe on repatraiting Mugabe's body.

Mr. Mugabe was born on 21 February 1925 in what was then Rhodesia. He was imprisoned for more than a decade without trial after criticising the government of Rhodesia in 1974. In 1973, while still in prison he was chosen president of the Zimbabwe African National Union.

The Liberation icon won Zimbabwe's first election after it secured independence from the UK, becoming prime minister in 1980. He later abolished the office in 1987 and became president instead. Unfortunately for the strongman who cried "Zimbabwe Is Mine" was ousted in a military coup in 2017 after 37 years in power.
